Meet Coach Campbell

Dondrale Campbell is a global basketball skill developer and another one of our lead Camp Coaches. He was born and raised in Oakland, CA and has been taking part in camps and clinics for over a decade in many different countries. He was recently named Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development for the University of Northern Colorado men’s basketball program. Prior to joining the university staff, Campbell was a high school coach in Portland, OR for 10 years where he lead an inner-city team to it’s first league championship in 60 years and an Elite 8 appearance at the Oregon state playoffs.

In between seasons, Campbell has always continued studying and working to improve his own his craft as a coach/trainer, while developing athletes of all ages in the game. He’s loved taking trips across the country and abroad to work camps with coaches from USA Basketball and other high-level skill development trainers. His mentor, Coach Marshall Cho, and he have worked camps overseas for former NBA center, Yao Ming, and helped coach at one of the most premier high school camps in the states under the legendary Coach, Don Showalter. Campbell also has worked under the direction of notable professional trainers like Phil Beckner and has several collegiate and professional athlete clientele of his own. In addition, he has been serving as a Camp Counselor for the renowned Formula Zero camp for the last couple years. This camp is put on by NBA Superstar (and Campbell’s childhood best friend & high school teammate), Damian Lillard.

He has been in the gym with athletes that span from overseas to the the G-League to the NBA, including Keljin Blevins, Evan Turner, Tim Frazier, Colin Saxon, Aaron Gordon, and others. Coach Campbell still always makes it a point though to give back to communities he is working in a few times a year, by leading skill development opportunities and offering his expertise to train youth players when he is available.

Prior to becoming a Division I Coach and Global Skill Developer, Campbell attended and played JuCo basketball for Monterey Peninsula in California and went on to play Division III basketball for Greenville College in the midwest. Upon graduation, he played professionally in the American Basketball Association for a couple of teams. His pro-career also included a stop in the Canadian National Basketball League.

FUN FACTS

Off the court, Coach Campbell is an introvert. He enjoys his quiet time and being with his wife and three children, his close friends, and traveling to relaxing destinations. On the court, Coach Campbell runs his own private and small group training business:

He also still plays basketball himself and is occasionally spotted during open runs getting buckets against hoopers of all ages.
